This was a quick evening paddle, and since the level of the Tay had dropped a lot due the long dry spell, I only went to the weir, and it looks as if the weir has suffered a bit from the prolonged period of high river levels.
The water level was about half way up the weir. To me, the waves below the main chute didn`t look like they used to - the first wave was very broken, and the usual train of waves below it were just a confused mess. I could just about surf the very river right edge of the first wave, the rest of it wasn`t anything like surfable. What surfing I could do was very fast, needed constant correction, and never lasted very long.
It also looks as if some of the big pile of rocks at the river left end of the weir have been washed away. Even though the water was only half way up the weir, there was still water coming over this end of the weir. There was two distinct "rivers" - one was a twisty rapid, the other was a flat shelf, which ended in a 600 mm drop into a flat but very aerated pool. They were both runnable, though a bit more water would have been beneficial.
