22 December 2018 .............. Around the Stacks again

Another trip to the Stacks, the weather was a bit better than last time, but not by much.

Just as I arrived in the car park, and the sun just about to appear below a big sheet of dense grey cloud, looking out over Elin`s Tower hiding down in the bottom left of the picture -

Up the hill at the back, and looking down on the lighthouse - the sea wasn`t just as rough as it was last time -

I don`t think I have ever seen two ferries to Ireland heading out at the same time before - the nearer one was a Stena Line ship, I assume the far away one would be an Irish Ferries ship.

They obviously weren`t in a race, they were both just cruising along - I gather that ferry operators can save a fortune in fuel if they don`t run the boats at their full speed.

The longer crossing time probably also increases the income of the on-board bars and cafes - a win-win situation for the operators - maybe not so good for the punters, but who cares about them -

Some nice lighting as the sun continues to drop clear of the cloud layer -

Starting to head round the high level path across to North Stack, and the sun is now lighting up the whole of North Stack -

A closer view of the tip of North Stack and the former signalling station - at one point the signalling station was an art gallery, I don`t know what the current situation is.

The low angle of the winter sun is shining right into Parliament House cave, and it isn`t really obvious that it is even a huge cave - it would have been quite cosy if anyone had been in there doing a bit of climbing.

You can also see the Skerries away at the back, but they don`t seem to be catching the sunshine -

Up on Holyhead Mountain now, and some more good lighting effects from the sun -

A rather hazy view across to Carmel Head, which has some of the oldest exposed rocks in Wales - its a barren and wild and dramatic place, and quite a hike to get to it - and it has fearsome tidal races around it which will happily eat sea kayaks for breakfast -

Time to head away after the inevitable tea break, and this was as near as we got to a sunset, as thereafter the sun dropped down below that bank of cloud and was never seen again -

 the sort of sunset

Back at the carpark in the twilight - it goes from daylight to darkness so quickly at this time of year - and a twilight view of South Stack lighthouse -
