Cleddau Bridge is quite an impressive box girder bridge that crosses over the Daugleddau tidal estuary between Pembroke Dock on the south side and Neyland on the north side.
The land on both sides of the estuary are quite high, so the bridge effectively goes from hilltop to hilltop, and so provides a good viewpoint out to the west down the estuary.
From that aspect it is good - however the fact that you have to climb up a very steep endless hill to get the bridge is not so good.
I am afraid that my ageing muscles were no match for the gradient, and I had to get off my bike and walk up the hill.
But it was worth the effort - this is looking away down the estuary towards Milford Haven and the refinery -
Round to the left is Pembroke Dock, which looks like quite a leafy place in this picture - in reality it is a bit more commercial than that, but it does have a good retail park.
Right in the middle of the picture is the slipway and pier at Hobbs Point - before the bridge was built there was a ferry service across the estuary from Hobbs Point to Neyland.
Round to the right, and looking over to Neyland -
Cleddau Bridge opened in 1975, but its construction was marred by a major collapse of a cantilever section under construction, with some injuries and fatalities, so there were quite a lot of delays, as well as financial and legal arguments that went on and considerably slowed progress, and it ended well over budget.
It is a good viewpoint, but note that there is no possibility of stopping a vehicle on the bridge, if you want to enjoy the view you will need to go there on foot or on a bike - and I can tell you - it is some climb up !
