A quick early evening visit to Carew Castle with some quite variable lighting conditions - Carew Castle sits beside one of the upper reaches of the Carew River, a tidal river in the southeastern corner of Pembrokeshire.
Looking across part of the river above a dam - the castle has quite a fancy frontage, though those large windows suggests that it wasn`t really built as a defensive castle, despite the name -
A rather striking height gauge on the bridge across the river - I was advised by someone who should know that the height gauge is rather optimistic, the tide level doesn`t ever get that high, but it does occasionally get up to maybe about 2 feet -
Along by the dam now, and this side of the castle isn`t nearly so fancy -
The dam was used to power a mill, the buildings are very well preserved, and are open for visitors during the day -
Heading away now, and the back of the castle is much more utility, and shows quite a lot of decay -
