An evening bike ride out around Southgate - and it turned out that there is some quite dramatic bits of coastline in the area between Pwlldu Head and Three Cliffs Bay.
I hope I have named them correctly, there seems to be some difference of opinion between Google Maps and the OS map for Swansea and Gower on what bits of the coastline should be attached to the various names.
In addition, the OS map calls it Threecliff Bay, rather than Three Cliffs Bay.
A further complication is that there are 2 or 3 headlands which at first sight aren`t all that different, which makes it a bit more difficult to work out what is what.
But to start, out along East Cliff, and a good view across to what I think is Pwlldu Head - but maybe isn`t -
Looking along some very rugged coastline in the opposite direction - it could be the cliffs below High Tor -
I wasn`t sure at what point the public road ran out, and it became a private road, but it eventually becomes a bit more obvious that I had gone as far as I could on my bike, so turned away, back to Southgate, and away along West Cliff.
Off the road and up onto the cliff tops, and a view of what I think might be High Tor - if you look closely you can just see the upper edge of Pwlldu Head away at the back -
Round in the other direction, and some more bold cliffs - I think, but again I am not sure, that this is Shire Combe, a surprisingly English sounding name for a bold feature on the Welsh coastline -
Three Cliffs Bay lies a bit further along around the corner, but I didn`t see any way to get there on my bike.
The coastal path does wind its way along the coastline, but to get the best views it appears that you have to deviate off the path a wee bit.
It looks like it would be quite an interesting bit of coastline to sea kayak along, but I have no idea about launching or landing places.
