One part of the Anglesey west coast that I haven`t been to all that often is the area around Rhosneigr and Aberffraw - Rhosneigr has some good beaches, and so gets rather busy during the summer, Aberffraw a bit less so, maybe that is why I haven`t been all that often.
However at the moment they are quite quiet, so a good time to go and see what`s there.
One of the places that is worth a visit is the headland around the Chambered Cairn, or Barclodiad y Gawres.
The chambered cairn has been restored, and I think that the roof is now made of concrete, however it gives you a perspective of what it might have been like.
There is a good observation point on top of it - I am not sure that it was intended to be an observation point, but it does fulfill that role quite well.
You get a bit of a view of the Lleyn Peninsula from there, but it is somewhat limited by the adjacent hill to the south. However Yr Eifl, Gryn Ddu, and Bwlch Mawr are just visible.
Further to the north the hills were in cloud, and the bottom end of the Lleyn Peninsula was rather hiding in haze, so not really visible either.
Round to the north, and you get a good view across to Rhoscolyn Head and the islands around Rhoscolyn Beacon - Holyhead Mountain is making it into the right hand side of the picture.
Round a bit more, and you are looking across Traeth Llydan to Rhosneigr - Traeth Llydan is also known as Broad Beach.
Barclodiad y Gawres is out on the north side of Porth Trecastell, another good beach.
Heading away from there now and up the hill a bit on the road down to Aberffraw - and with the extra height a bit of a better view across to Bwlch Mawr, Gryn Ddu, and Yr Eifl.
