Out on my bike around Ardrossan, and the harbour is probably one of the more interesting bits of Ardrossan - and the harbour is huge.
There is a very large yacht / boat yard and an equally large marina.
It is actually surprising that all these pictures have come out as well as they have, it was beginning to get dark.
Looking across a sort of grassy peninsula to another bit of the harbour -
There is a rather fun bit of modern art / sculpting at the end of this peninsula, a giant chessboard with big granite balls on it - I wonder if they came from Ailsa Craig, it was always famous for the granite curling stones that come from there.
I love Google - it appears that the whole thing was designed by a Japanese sculptor, Hideo Furuta, who settled in Scotland and specialised in working with granite.
From the end of the peninsula there is a good view across to the mountains on Arran.
Last and by no means least, Ardrossan harbour is used by Cal Mac as the mainland base for the ferry service across to Brodick on Arran.
Cal Mac run two boats on this service, the MV Isle of Arran, and the much larger MV Caledonia Isles - this is the Isle of Arran that just arrived when I was there.
