out and about - 2016
17 June 2016 .............. Amazing sunset
We had the most amazing sunset this evening - the sun well below the horizon was lighting up the underside of the dark and low clouds that were coming down from the north - it started when I was in the house, and I kept on going upstairs to try and photograph it out of a bedroom window, however my view of it was quite limited by all the neighbouring roofs - this is what I was able to get.
I soon got frustrated by the lack of a decent view, so headed off down the road to the local waste recycling centre, which provided a good place to park, with a much better view of the clouds.
Because the clouds were so low, the lighting up was all around me, so I could only photograph one section of it at a time - I would have needed a lens with a viewing angle of something like 150 degrees to get it all into one picture.
So lots of pictures, and the lighting just got better and better, and went on for well over another half an hour.
Eventually the sun was too far below the horizon to light up the near low clouds, however it was still lighting up the much further away high altitude clouds, which got increasingly orangey red, though the camera hasn`t really caught the red too well.
It wasn`t too long before that colour finally faded as well, and it was time to go home again.
Bye bye sunset, and bye bye recycling centre !
It is always nice to see a sunset, but a sunset over land just doesn`t have the same magic that you get with a sunset over the sea.
