Strumble Head was my last stop on my visit to South Wales, and I am not really sure if it was worth the effort of getting there.
Nice views, lots of car parks, but not a lot else - the bridge across to the island with the lighthouse on it is a no-go, but it does provide good access to the Pembroke Coastal Path.
Looking down on the lighthouse
A long focus view looking away to the southwest, as far as Penllechwen and Carn LLidi just above St David`s Head -
Round to the east of the lighthouse - I think it is perhaps on the most northerly part of Strumble Head - there is a building which was presumably a military look-out post during the last war - it isn`t a toilet block, even though it looks like it - now it is a public observation point, and it was open when I was there.
Inside there are various descriptive signs on the walls, and it certainly does give a good view out to the north.
Heading back up to the car park, and another view of the lighthouse -
I imagine that around Strumble Head would provide some quite challenging sea kayaking conditions - very exposed, totally committing, strong tidal currents, and probably some races as well.
It is also a long way from the two nearest access points at Abercastle and Fishguard - it would be quite a long day to go the whole distance between the two - and the shuttle between the two would take a long time.
Not a trip to be undertaken lightly !
