Strange conditions at the Swellies this evening - the wave just wouldn`t form, I waited and waited and waited - there were some waves, but they weren`t big enough to do anything with, more like glorified ripples.
The suddenly it was there - and for about 10 minutes I had quite a good run on it.
Then it was gone, and it just turned into a mess.
I think that there was too much depth of water, the shingle bank around the Cardinal Marker never dried out at all - maybe all these low pressures are raising the sea level.
So I gave up, and headed up through the Swellies on the mainland side - I was quite surprised that I managed to get right through and under the Britannia bridge, paddled up until I was opposite Plas Menai, went right across to say hello to Lord Nelson - well it was polite to do so, since he was there keeping an eye on me.
Looking up at the Britannia Bridge - I have never noticed before that the inside of the arches above the road deck are lit up.
Funny how the centre pillar is in focus, but the two outside ones are out of focus - I would not have expected the depth of field to be a significant factor at that distance.
I came back down through the Swellies on the Anglesey side, and was quite surprised about how confused the water was all the way down, with huge eddies, whirlie pools, and quite a chunky rapid to negotiate in the nearly darkness.
So a pity about the lack of surfing apart from that ten minute bash - it would have been nice to have finished the season with some good surfing - I think that today is probably the last day of the Springs surfing until next year, the darkness is coming so early now.
So bye bye Swellies for a few months.
