Good surfing on the Swellies wave this evening - it was a bit slow to start, but once it was up and running it was working well, although it suffered a bit from the usual Swellies deficit that every now and then, it just completely flattens.
After maybe 30 or 40 minutes it was getting quite hard to steer the boat on it, and my shoulder was getting quite sore from the stern rudders, so I had to come off.
As it happened, that was just as the first of the playboats arrived -they seem to have an uncanny ability to arrive just as the wave gets to their ideal state.
As the wave was by now a bit beyond either me or my boat, I did think about heading off, but it was a beautiful evening, so I hung around.
One of the things that happens with the Swellies wave is that after another hour or so, the wave gets too flat for the playboats, and sometimes it can provide a good ride for me and my boat - and I did get a good ride at that point, but it wasn`t too long before I lost it, and I just couldn`t catch it again, though I tried several times.
The water was moving quite fast through the Swellies this evening, I think a bit faster than usual - which was why I was struggling both earlier on and on the dying wave.
However it was good to watch the sun setting beyond the hill.
After the sun had gone, I headed back down to the old suspension bridge, and realised that because of my different position, the sun had reappeared - so I got another sunset.
It is not often you get two sunsets on the same day !
