Rather strangely, even though it was right on the equinox, the tidal range for these Springs was surprisingly small, and it was doubtful that the Swellies wave would have been much good.
So I went there a couple of hours later than usual, to see if there would be anything worth playing on around the Cardinal Marker itself, rather than on the Swellies wave further downstream.
There were various waves out to the side that were continually changing in shape quite rapidly as the water level rose - sometimes I could get a brief ride, but that`s all it ever was.
However the evening wasn`t at all a waste of time, for a start it was a lovely evening, and there was a continually changing sunset the whole time providing a nice backdrop.
And then as the water level rose, there was this rather nice water display over the concrete base of the Cardinal Marker.
As the water level rose up to the top of the concrete base, the waves changed character quite a lot, and they ended up as a long wave train downstream - a very long wave train.
The first and second waves were far too short for my boat, but I got a few rides on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th waves.
Eventually it was time to go, and I found that - although I am not sure about this - but possibly for the first time ever, there was enough water to paddle through between the bridge pillars.
A closing picture looking up at the Menai Bridge in the twilight with its light on.
