09 September 2013 ............ The Swellies

It was Springs over the weekend, and on both Saturday and Sunday evenings the previous low tide height was 0.8 metres, and the next high tide height was 5.7 metres.

The tidal range of 4.9 metres on both evenings produced waves that were fairly easy going green waves, except that on both evenings, they were very inconsistent - they kept changing shape and depth, so I had to continually move around to hold onto the wave.

On Saturday, I got quite a few good surfs, interrupted by horrible showers.

On Sunday, I was on the water a bit early, so went for a paddle up through the Swellies and round the central pillar of the Brittania Bridge. It was a very pleasant early evening, much better than Saturday.

The flood tide seemed reluctant to build up, and by the time the wave formed, there wasn`t much daylight left, but I got in four surfs.

The first one lasted a few seconds, the second one lasted a few minutes - I lost it trying to do a paddle twirl.

The third one lasted about 15 minutes - it was hard work, but it just went on and on, and all the time I had a nice sunset to watch somewhere over in the Llanfair PG direction.

The fourth surf only lasted a few minutes, and by then it was time to go.

So fairly brief sessions on both evenings, but well worth going, despite the dreadful weather on Saturday.
