09 July 2013 .............. Bull Bay to Middle Mouse

I got back out to Middle Mouse again, this time from Bull Bay. It was in perfect conditions, and turned out to be a wildlife special.

Here is an opening photo to give some idea of the general topography -

A bit further around, and the coastline gets quite a bit more dramatic - here are a few of the features.

Looking further along the coast now, with Dinas Gynfor and Middle Mouse just making an appearance.

By now I was along by Porth Wen, a big bay with some quite big cliffs along the east end, a bit of a beach at the back, and a disused brickworks at the west end - this is looking into the shore and the brickworks. Not a very good photo I am afraid.

A few of the features of the brickworks - after the trip I discovered that the brickworks is private property and I shouldn`t really have been in it - it isn`t part of the Anglesey Coastal Path.

I don`t know if the beach to the right of it is also private, lots of people land on it. The access laws in Wales are beyond my understanding !

Out by Middle Mouse now - and it had a few birds on it !

 out by Middle Mouse

Out at the west end of Middle Mouse I played peeky-boo with some seals - they popped up, had a look, then swam round behind various rocks and peaked over the rocks at me. Then they would swim back round and pop up again for another closer look. This went for a good fifteen minutes or so, whilst I just sat there and did nothing.

On the way out to Middle Mouse, some distance off to the east, there some porpoises leaping about. I saw them, but didn`t really register as to what they were. Out at Middle Mouse I met another two paddlers who had also seen them, and confirmed that that was what they were.

After that I noticed that the porpoises were now off to the west of Middle Mouse, so I let myself be drifted down in their direction by the last of the ebb tide. Eventually one of them swam straight towards the side of my boat leaping out of the water as it went - although I seem to have photographed it when it wasn`t leaping -

Just before it reached my boat it dived down and went right underneath my boat. Despite the fact that I didn`t frame the picture properly - it was a instant reactive photo, no time for any kind of setup - I am quite chuffed to have got a picture like this, as it dives down.

By now I had drifted quite far to the west of Middle Mouse - so here is a view looking back to Middle Mouse, and looking away along the coast to the east.

Time to think about heading back - this is looking back across to Dinas Gynfor -

On the way back over, it was now slack water, and the surface of the water was covered in big patches/flocks/whatever of seabirds in tight groups - some of them sitting there, some of them jumping up and diving back down straight through the other birds.

And so back to Bull Bay after what had been quite an eventful trip.
