04 October 2012 .............. Falls of Lora

I went for another dawn raid at the Falls of Lora this morning - it was quite good. The wave beside the north pier was quite user friendly, the actual level was quite close to the predicted level of 3.9 metres, and there wasn`t any wind. So that was all good.

Then out to the middle, and that was excellent. I caught the first wave, but it was just a wee bit too flat to hold me, so I had to keep paddling to hold on to it.

It wasn`t long before I dropped back onto the second wave, and it was good. I was on it for several minutes before losing it. Unusually, if I dropped back a bit and lost it, I could paddle like ......¹ and get back on to it. I`ve never had that before, normally once you lose it, you are away, and you can`t get back. So that helped to prolong the surfing. Even managed a paddle twirl !

Once I lost it, I couldn`t catch any of the other waves. I went round again, but by then the first and second wave were too flat, I had a very brief surf on the third wave, and that was the end.

So I went for a paddle out to the mouth of Loch Etive, and round the two islands Eilean Beag and Eilean Mor. You get some weird currents round that area, because the tide is now dropping, the ebb tide is flowing out of Ardmucknish Bay out to the Firth of Lorne, but for Loch Etive and the Falls of Lora it is still the flood tide into Loch Etive.

So all in all, it was a well spent two or three hours, but now my wrists are complaining.
