Fraser and Myles from Helensburgh have sent me some photos taken on their recent visit up to the Falls of Lora - there were far too many to put them all on here, so here is a few of them showing them (and me) in action on the wave beside the north pier. They were taking turns in the Aquanaut LV RM as, quite wisely, they didn`t want to use their composite Aquanaut on this wave. The Aquanaut LV RM was surfing well.
I was in my recently aquired Romany Surf RM, which is proving to be excellent for surfing, but is really a bit too big for me.
The wave looks good, but it wasn`t the easiest of waves to surf on, as there was quite a strong diagonal current flowing river left over most of the width of the wave, and it was a bit of a fight to stay on the wave. And if you went a bit too far to the river right, you were grabbed and slammed broadside on against the pier.
Thanks for a good evening, and for the photos - here`s to another one !
PS - if anyone is thinking of coming to the Falls of Lora for a play on the Spring tides, be aware that we are now heading down to the September Equinox - all the Spring tides right through until the end of November are quite big ones, they are all at or over 4.0 metres, and some are reaching 4.3 metres, with big tidal ranges.
The surfing may not be the easiest until the end of November, by which time darkness is becoming a serious problem. So choose your days to visit carefully.
