Netware utilities
IntroductionThis web page shows several of the command line utilities and tools available on Netware 4, 5 , and 6. It is not an exhaustive list, there are several more, but the ones listed are the ones that are most likely to be used during routine server maintenance. There is no guarantee that all of these utilities and tools are available on every server. The existence of some of them depends on the configuration of the individual server.
BroadcastNetware 4 + 5 + 6 Provides a command line ability to send a short message to all users or some specified users, who are currently logged on. Format for usage is broadcast "message goes here" which goes to all logged in users, or alternatively, broadcast "message goes here" to username Broadcast appears to work in the same way as Send

Dismount allDismount volumeNetware 4 + 5 + 6 Dismounts all volumes or dismounts the specified volume. In Netware 5 + 6, it works for both legacy and NSS volumes

When dsrepair is run with this switch, an additional option is included in the path dsrepair / advanced options menu / replica and partition operations / replicas stored on this server / replica options, partitions: / This option is called repair time stamps and declare a new epoch and is used when there is a problem with synthetic time. This is not an operation which should be done lightly. Beware.
Help allHelp name of commandNetware 4 + 5 + 6 "Help all" should provide a command line view of all commands which can be input via the command line. In reality, it does not - it does provide a lot of them, but definately not all of them. Some of the commands shown are not commands that would be used by an operator at the console, they are commands which can be inserted into scripts such as the autoexec.ncf file. Using the "Help name of command" command only produces a result if the specified command shows up in the listing produced by the "Help all" command. In some versions of Netware 5 + 6, some of the Help data is out of date - the information provided is based on the command as used in Netware 4, not as it is used in Netware 5 + 6. Netware 6 has a larger and slightly different command set from Netware 5, which in turn has a larger and slightly different command set from Netware 4.

NwconfigNetware 6 Nwconfig in Netware 6 is similar to the version used in Netware 5, however it has a reduced number of facilties. NSS storage and legacy partitions in Netware 6 are done through the java based ConsoleOne console. Licensing is done through Nwadmin32. Operations done through Nwconfig in Netware 6 therefore include

This command downs the server and does a virtual cold reboot. The power is not recycled off / on, but the server completely kills the Netware operating system. The microprocessor is reset. It is nearly equivalent to hitting the server reset button.
Restart serverNetware 4 + 5 + 6 In Netware 4, this command is invalid if the server is running, the server must be brought down before a restart command is useable. In Netware 5 + 6, this command is valid whilst the server is up and running. This command downs the server and does a warm reboot.
