During the summer of 2011 I climbed several of the mountains to the north of the Bonawe area of Loch Etive, including Beinn Duirinnis, Beinn Bhreac, Beinn Mheadhonach, and the Corbett Creach Bheinn.
Some of them were pretty unpleasant days, the weather was okay, but the foliage was very dense around the lower slopes, and with no paths, it was hard going. If you are going to climb obscure mountains with no paths, it is probably better to do them in the spring, before the bracken and the brambles have got going.
For Creach Bheinn, I started from the top of Loch Creran, and headed north east up the forest track at NN 004 443 - when the track folded back on itself, I cut through the trees, and out towards the Allt Buidhe. Followed the side of the wood until I was clear of it, then pretty much followed a straight line up to the summit.
I didn`t take any notes, and these pictures have been hiding away on a computer for the last year or so, so I`m a bit vague about what all the pictures are of. However I think I have them sussed.
To start with, I think we are seeing the characteristic shape of Ben Nevis away in the distance in this photo, so that will be the munro Beinn Sgulaird just right of centre.
Further round to the right, Beinn Sgulaird is now on the left, and we are looking up Glen Etive to the Glencoe montains.
Swing a bit more round to the right, we are now looking across Loch Etive to Ben Starav, the river Allt Coire na Larach, and the long rocky ridge of Stob an Duine Ruaidh
A bit further round, and directly beyond the sandy beach, the two munros Beinn a Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich
Finally, a wee bit further round, and Ben Cruachan becomes the focus of attention.
I say finally, because it appears that I don`t have any photos looking westwards - my brain was obviously not in gear that day, as there is nothing between Creach Bheinn and the fabulous vista of Lismore, Morven, Mull, the sea, and anything else that is in sight. So I don`t know what happened.
Coming down, I followed a different route - I headed north east over the un-named 803 metre summit, and down to the coll Coire Buidhe. From there there is a landrover track all the way down to Druimavuic, then back along the road to my starting point.
I don`t remember much else about the day, the weather looks to have been quite good, so I presume I enjoyed it !
